December 2025
Hello, my dear friend,
I’m glad to be able to write to you once more in the new year! I wish you good health, peace, and the ability to take each moment as it is—to enjoy it and make the best of it.
This past December, I made two patterns: one with a dog and one with a dragon!
Were it not for the challenges from Spoonflower, I would never have drawn something in this style. But, as usual, I’m happy I tried. This pattern in available on Spoonflower and Redbubble.
The dragon below, is slightly less fierce than the dog (wink!):
This pattern is also available through Spoonflower, Redbubble and as a wallpaper if you get my newsletter in your inbox.
Sketchbook
I’m getting halfway through my current daily sketchbook! I do have one spare, empty one ready to use next, but I’ll soon start looking to get a couple more. Here’s what I drew in December:
Other thoughts
I received several beautiful books as Christmas gifts, and it makes me happy to leaf through them—either for inspiration or simply for the joy of it!
My studio is also taking shape: I now have a large standing desk (a manual one, as it was half the price of an automated one, and I thought a bit of extra movement can’t hurt), several cupboards for art supplies and books, and a family heirloom easel! Oh, and a very big whiteboard to hang calendars and inspiration. Next on my wish list are a comfortable armchair to read in and a good desk chair.
I’ve finished Gone with the Wind. As with many good books, I find that I learn so much from fictional characters. Despite (or because of?) their faults and shortcomings, these characters teach me lessons I have not yet learned from my own experience.
That’s a wrap for now—see you next month!
Warm hugs,
Ema

As an illustrator and pattern designer, I believe in the power of imagery to bring joy.
My work centers on hand-painted repeating patterns, inspired by the fantasy and magical realism stories I love to read.
I work in both traditional and digital mediums.
Long walks with my little dog are one of my favorite pastimes.
